Why are there different forms of magnesium?

The magnesium shelf is a chemistry exam: oxide, citrate, glycinate, malate, threonate — same mineral, wildly different behavior. The differences are real, not marketing: absorption runs from roughly 4% to 40% depending on the form, and each has a personality. The skill is matching form to purpose, because the milligram count on the front is the least informative number on the bottle.
